10:00 to 10:15 Welcome and greetings by president Dr. Yvonne Walston with highlights of the last year. Introduction of the NMSAAM BOD and committee chairs. Treasurer’s report will be given with the candidates.
10:15 to 12:00 Noon: Movie Acupuncture Fever, 2023 documentary by Doug Dearth, known for his 2007 9000 Needles docudrama. This is presented by the American Association of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture about the road to legalization in California in the 1970’s. “California Acupuncture TCM is the Seed of Acupuncture in America,” and as Neal S. Miller, CalATMA President says, “Connecting to our roots will make a healthy tree that supports its many branches.”
12:00 to 12:30 Two – five minute speech by each candidate who has submitted a letter of intent, including a report of last year’s work for NMSAAM.
12:30 to 1:00 Elections of NMSAAM board members
- NMSAAM members: Send your one page letter of intent for the position you want to serve on to governance@nmsaam.org by Monday September 4.
- Positions include
Officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer
Directors: Up to 9 - Current president will lead the rest of the meeting.
1:00 to 1:30 Lunch Break.& Networking Time
1:30 to 2:00 NMSAAM lobbyists.
- Introduction by VP and Legislative Chair D. Yvette Arellano
- Discussion of how they have been serving NMSAAM and thus, NM DOMs
2:00 to 2:45 Mina Larson, CEO of NCCAOM, Update on NCCAOM Policies.
- How obtain the necessary herbal education to take the NCCAOM exam
- How to renew expired NCCAOM Diplomate status
2:45 to 3:30 Wongu University: Herbal Medicine stand alone modules presentation.
3:30 to 4:30 Report and discussion of SB421, the proposed legislation that would have included LAc practitioners equal to DOMs in all but herbs, which was tabled at the 2023 Legislative Session; Attendees are encouraged to contact info@nmsaam.org with additional comments and questions afterwards.
4:30-5:00 Instructions from Webmaster Dr. Steven Malins on how to join NMSAAM. Discussion, kudos, passing the gavel to the new president, and close of annual meeting.
*Note that Candace Sarges from the ASA is willing and interested in giving training for BOD positions at a subsequent BOD meeting soon after the elections.
